Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Senate is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Deputy Archivist for Digital Archives. This critical role within the Senate Historical Office offers a salary range of $97,081 to $150,478 annually and the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of vital historical records. The position is eligible for partial telework after an initial onsite period.

The Deputy Archivist will play a key role in managing and preserving the Senate’s digital records, ensuring their accessibility for future generations. Responsibilities include advising Senators and staff on digital archiving best practices, collaborating with other archival institutions, and implementing strategies for archiving emerging technologies like social media and web applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consulting with Senate offices on electronic records management and archiving.
  • Coordinating with external archives and institutions.
  • Developing guidelines for electronic records archiving.
  • Evaluating and describing electronic records.
  • Implementing strategies for archiving new technologies.

Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Library Science, American History, Information Science (with an archives management focus), or Archival Science with five years of experience in electronic records archiving is required. Candidates must also demonstrate expertise in digital asset management, digital preservation tools, and archival management systems like ArchivesSpace. Familiarity with archival standards (DACS, EAD, etc.) and knowledge of U.S. History and the Senate are preferred.
