Role Overview

The WC Team Leader Claims role is responsible for leading and managing workers’ compensation claim operations. This position oversees claim investigations, compensability decisions, settlements, and reserve accuracy while ensuring full compliance with internal policies and external regulations. The individual in this role guides teams toward strong performance through coaching, training, and leadership, while aligning daily work with broader business goals and strategies.

Primary Areas of Responsibility

Claims Leadership and Team Management

The WC Team Leader manages claim professionals and their assigned inventories. They ensure proper claim assignment based on complexity and staff capability. Through consistent leadership, they foster accountability, performance excellence, and professional growth across the team.

Financial Oversight and Reserve Accuracy

This role monitors reserve accuracy and claim cost trends using financial reporting tools. The leader ensures timely and accurate assessment of indemnity and expense exposure while managing allocated loss costs within budget guidelines.

Claims Investigation and Compliance

The position oversees the full lifecycle of claims, including investigation, disposition, and settlement. All activities must align with corporate claim standards and statutory, regulatory, and ethical requirements across applicable jurisdictions.

Training, Coaching, and Staff Development

A key focus of the role is developing talent. The WC Team Leader provides structured training, ongoing coaching, and performance feedback. They also prepare high-potential employees for future leadership and succession opportunities.

Business Strategy and Change Management

The leader clearly communicates business vision, strategic priorities, and performance expectations. They guide teams through organizational change by explaining business drivers and helping staff adapt effectively.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement

Education and Experience Requirements

  • At least two years of workers’ compensation claim experience is strongly preferred.

  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on coaching and development.
  • Clear and confident communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to analyze financial and operational reports for decision-making.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is highly preferred.

  • Excellent time management and follow-through on customer needs.
  • In-depth understanding of reserve accuracy related to bodily injury and property damage claims.
  • Ability to partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Work Arrangement Details

Candidates located near the Hartford, San Antonio, Lake Mary, Scottsdale, or Naperville offices are expected to work on-site three days per week from Tuesday through Thursday. Candidates outside these areas may work remotely, with occasional office visits as needed.
