Role Overview

Shell is seeking a Retail Territory Manager to oversee a cluster of 15-20 retail sites in Pune or Bangalore. The individual in this role manages the relationship between Shell and its Retailers or Dealers at the site level, while ensuring strong commercial performance and operational excellence.

The position centers on delivering results across key Sales and Operations pillars, including Care for People, Brilliant Basics, and Site Profit and Loss performance. In addition, the Retail Territory Manager ensures consistent compliance with safety standards, customer commitments, and profitability objectives across the assigned territory.

Core Responsibilities

Strengthening Site Performance and Retail Excellence

The Retail Territory Manager evaluates all aspects of site performance across the assigned geography, including service standards, operational efficiency, and people capability. Where gaps are identified, the role mandates and advises on the use of Shell-recommended tools, processes, and support systems to help Retailers profitably deliver the Customer Commitment.

The role also ensures that all sites adhere to Shell’s operational standards, contractual requirements, and HSSE guidelines. By maintaining rigorous oversight, the manager safeguards both brand reputation and operational integrity.

Driving Commercial Growth and P&L Delivery

The position carries full accountability for delivering Sales and Operations targets within the territory. Through structured reviews and action plans, the manager optimizes topline growth, margins, cost management, and loss control.

Furthermore, the individual maximizes sales development opportunities while protecting Shell’s commercial interests. By coaching and motivating Retailers, the manager supports sustainable income growth across sites and strengthens partner capability within a rapidly expanding retail network.

Retailer Relationship Management and Capability Building

The Retail Territory Manager builds and sustains constructive relationships with Retailers and Dealers. The role includes counselling and performance management for underperforming sites, while also enabling high-performing locations to maintain benchmark standards in operations, housekeeping, grooming, and training.

In addition, the manager ensures that Retailers invest in staff training and understand the importance of people in delivering consistent customer experiences. Through focused leadership, the role reinforces the principle that people make the difference in operational excellence.

Strategy Implementation and Network Development

The individual plays a leading role in executing local retail strategy, thereby securing optimal network coverage and maximizing shareholder value. This includes promoting professional convenience retail practices and advancing Non-Fuel Retail aspirations at every site.

Best Candidate

Educational Background

A relevant degree in business, commerce, management, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent professional experience in retail or commercial roles will also be considered.

Professional Experience and Technical Competence

Shell seeks candidates with proven experience in profit-and-loss responsibility, including management of revenue, margins, operating costs, and losses.
