What the role involves

  • Hire, coach, and develop the engineers on the Trust and Safety team, including performance management and career growth.
  • Set the team’s roadmap, balancing investigations and incident work with longer-term prevention, automation, and platform defenses.
  • Guide systems that detect phishing, malicious workloads, payment fraud, and other misuse of the platform.

  • Coordinate significant fraud and abuse incidents with Security, Infrastructure, Support, Finance, and Legal.
  • Build sustainable on-call practices, clear ownership, runbooks, and incident learning.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to add safeguards throughout the customer lifecycle while considering legitimate users and false positives.

Required experience

  • At least five years managing and developing engineers, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • A strong software and security engineering background, with the judgment to guide system design and technical tradeoffs.

  • Ability to turn uncertain threats and business needs into practical milestones and shipped improvements.

Additional experience and benefits

Render says experience with cloud or developer platforms, payment fraud, phishing, malware hosting, account compromise, threat intelligence, and growing engineering teams would be useful. Familiarity with Go, TypeScript, Kubernetes, Postgres, Terraform, or Temporal is also listed as helpful rather than required.
