CircleCI is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Web Experiences organization. This is a full-time remote position based in Ontario, Canada, focused on engineering leadership, people development, product delivery, technical direction, and AI-native software development practices.
The Engineering Manager will lead the teams responsible for customer-facing experiences across CircleCI. The role combines people management with engineering strategy and product thinking, helping the organization improve how developers interact with CircleCI as software delivery evolves around AI agents and increasingly autonomous development workflows.
A major responsibility is building and developing a high-performing engineering team. You will recruit and onboard talent, coach and mentor engineers, conduct regular one-on-ones and feedback conversations, establish goals, support career development, and create an environment where engineers can take thoughtful risks and communicate openly.
You will also be accountable for consistent delivery of meaningful product improvements. Working closely with Product, Design, Data, and other engineering teams, you will help balance delivery speed with reliability, maintainability, and product quality while using performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Customer and product thinking are central to the role. You will work with stakeholders and customers to understand how developers use CircleCI, translate those insights into engineering priorities, and ensure technical investments support meaningful business and customer outcomes.
CircleCI expects its engineering teams to operate with an AI-native mindset. As Engineering Manager, you will use AI tools yourself, help engineers incorporate them effectively into development workflows, evaluate where AI improves engineering velocity and where it falls short, and ensure AI-assisted work maintains appropriate technical standards.
Although this is not a hands-on coding position, candidates need enough technical depth to challenge architecture decisions, identify potential problems, participate credibly in design discussions, and act as a technical tiebreaker when necessary.
The role also focuses on frontend performance, reliability, maintainable architecture, and observability. CircleCI specifically mentions tools such as Honeycomb and Datadog and expects operational data to guide technical decisions.
Candidates need previous people-management experience, strong knowledge of modern software-engineering practices, demonstrated technical leadership, excellent communication skills, product judgment, and experience leading distributed teams.
Experience managing frontend-oriented full-stack engineering teams is advantageous, particularly teams working with technologies such as React and TypeScript.
CircleCI lists the Canadian base salary range as C$166,000–C$207,750 CAD per year.
