DevOps Engineer – Platform Infrastructure (Remote)
Knock is hiring a DevOps Engineer to join its platform team and help build, scale, and maintain the core services and infrastructure that power its product. Knock describes itself as a remote-first company with a New York City base.

Job Overview
As a DevOps Engineer, you will work within Knock’s platform team on foundational infrastructure, production Kubernetes, AWS deployments, database and queue scalability, observability, reliability, deployment practices, and the developer experience supporting product engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Adopt, modernize, and maintain a Terraform-backed EKS cluster for elastic scaling, reliability, performance, and security.
- Investigate PostgreSQL performance and queue infrastructure and develop plans for scaling systems by another 10x to 100x.
- Identify and resolve scaling problems before they affect customers.
- Use and improve telemetry and tracing across Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, and Honeycomb.
- Work within the application codebase when necessary to address infrastructure observability blind spots.
- Help maintain and improve Knock’s greater than 99.95% uptime track record.
- Support product engineers in delivering customer-facing improvements quickly and reliably.
- Improve developer experience through deployment approaches such as canaries, faster cycle times, and blue/green deployments.
- Participate in the engineering team’s scheduled on-call rotation.
- Create runbooks and internal technical documentation to communicate infrastructure changes and operating practices.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role at a startup or mid-sized company operating complex systems at scale.
- Experience working with production Kubernetes clusters using infrastructure as code.
- Experience with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Pulumi or CloudFormation.
- Experience operating complex AWS deployments, including multi-account environments and complex VPC structures supporting EKS.
- Experience with EKS.
- Experience operating and scaling database technologies.
- Significant experience with at least one of Aurora PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse, or a comparable relevant database technology.
- Experience or familiarity operating and scaling queues and streams using technologies such as SQS, Kinesis, Kafka, or similar systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills focused on reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a fully distributed, remote-first team.

Reliability & Platform Engineering
The platform team is responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining Knock’s core infrastructure and services. This position carries both high autonomy and high accountability, with responsibility for improving existing infrastructure standards while communicating technical changes across the engineering organization.
The role includes proactive capacity and performance work, production troubleshooting, observability improvements, deployment optimization, documentation, and maintaining service availability.
