Role Overview

The Lead Software Engineer – Workday will play a pivotal role in transforming the employee experience by delivering scalable, automated, and efficient Workday integration solutions. This position focuses on connecting business requirements with technical solutions, simplifying processes, and ensuring system reliability. The role demands technical excellence, collaboration across global teams, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement within the People & Capability Technology ecosystem.

Main Responsibilities

Workday Integration Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end integration design and delivery, including requirements gathering, development, configuration, validation, and deployment using Studio, Orchestrations, Core Connectors, EIB, RaaS, and REST/SOAP APIs.
  • Manage data mapping, transformation, and validation to ensure accuracy and compliance across inbound and outbound integrations.
  • Oversee integration lifecycle management, including testing, environment strategy, code promotion, and production hypercare.
  • Develop integration playbooks, templates, and governance frameworks to standardize future projects.

Technical Design & Execution

  • Design and deploy scalable integrations between Workday and external platforms, including payroll providers and benefits administrators.
  • Establish consistent integration architecture, configuration, and error-handling frameworks across global and multi-entity environments.
  • Build business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, and data transformations to support operational workflows.
  • Drive automation through Workday Extend applications and REST-based microservices.

Collaboration & Advisory

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on Workday integration best practices, collaborating with HR, IT, and business stakeholders.
  • Lead technical design workshops, test strategies, and cutover activities.
  • Stay ahead of Workday releases by conducting impact analyses and ensuring adoption of new features.

Ideal Candidate Background

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday integration experience, including Studio, Orchestrations, Core Connectors, EIB, RaaS, REST, and SOAP.
  • Strong understanding of Workday data models and business processes across multiple modules (HCM, Compensation, Absence, Time Tracking, Benefits, Payroll, Security).
  • 4+ years designing complex reports, calculated fields, and business processes.
  • 3+ years of experience with data transformation, validation, and integration error handling.
  • Proficiency in XML, XSLT, JSON, XSD, API authentication, encryption, certificates, and SFTP/data exchange frameworks.
  • Experience with Workday Extend or developing custom applications to enhance Workday functionality.
