The Role at a Glance
This is not an ordinary engineering role. The Principal AI Engineer will play a pivotal part in architecting Bunnings’ AI transformation. The position offers the opportunity to establish frameworks, design cutting-edge agentic AI systems, and implement enterprise-level solutions that will drive tangible impact across the organization’s digital ecosystem.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the AI systems strategy and technical roadmap across enterprise platforms.
- Design and integrate agentic AI frameworks across multiple business systems to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee Azure AI, Power Platform, and enterprise integration initiatives.
- Build, mentor, and guide a high-performing team of AI engineers.
- Drive architectural reviews, technical governance, and management of technical debt.
- Establish integration patterns using APIs, MCP, and emerging AI protocols.
- Translate business challenges into AI-driven solutions that unlock measurable value.
- Promote a culture of experimentation, collaboration, and excellence across teams.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a strategic technical leader with deep expertise in software and AI engineering. They possess the confidence to shape large-scale transformation and the communication skills to engage both technical and executive audiences.
They should demonstrate:
- Mastery of software and platform engineering with hands-on coding experience in Python, C#, or Java.
- Strong background in LLMs, Generative AI, and Agentic systems.
- Familiarity with AI safety, RAG patterns, and prompt engineering.
- Expertise in Azure AI, Power Platform, and enterprise integrations.
- A solid grasp of Agile, DevOps, and SDLC practices.
- Proven mentorship ability and leadership across diverse technical teams.
Experience & Educational Background
- Minimum 10 years of experience in software or AI/ML systems engineering.
- Proven success in architecting scalable automation or AI-based enterprise systems.
- Advanced understanding of cloud environments, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
