Role Summary

The Staff Neurologist is a key member of the Neurology Service, providing comprehensive care for Veterans with movement disorders and headache neurology conditions. The physician functions as an independent practitioner managing both inpatient and outpatient care, including telehealth consultations. The role integrates direct patient care, administrative responsibilities, teaching, and research collaborations.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

  • Conduct comprehensive neurological assessments, including medical history, diagnosis, and treatment plans.
  • Deliver guideline-adherent evaluation and management of headache neurology conditions.
  • Provide care in outpatient clinics (minimum half-day per week) and inpatient consultations proportional to the VA workload.
  • Advise patients and families as needed.

Teaching & Mentorship

  • Educate medical students, residents, fellows, PA students, and NPs.
  • Develop and disseminate educational materials for staff and patients.

Operational Excellence & Research

  • Standardize documentation and continuously evaluate care quality.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research involving Veteran data.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, management, and patients.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to organizational mission and goals with a cooperative attitude.
  • Ensure productivity meets program standards.

Candidate Profile

Education & Licensing Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
  • Full, unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certified in Headache Neurology or Adult Neurology (Psychiatry & Neurology).
  • Completion of a Headache Neurology Fellowship is strongly preferred.
