Senior Software Engineer

Dremio is hiring a Senior Software Engineer – Platform to build foundational platform services supporting its unified lakehouse platform for analytics and AI. This is a remote position based in Portugal.

You will join Dremio’s Observability and Core Services team, which develops platform capabilities used across the engineering organization. The team’s responsibilities include telemetry, messaging, key-value storage and persistence, application frameworks, caching, coordination, event and audit services, and integrations with the SAP platform.

The position sits at the intersection of application engineering, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering. You will work on distributed systems and infrastructure designed for scalability, reliability, observability, and ease of use while collaborating with product, SRE, DevOps, Support, and Field teams.

A major responsibility is building and operating Dremio’s observability platform. You will develop systems that ingest customer telemetry, including events, logs, and traces, using OpenTelemetry and related industry practices.

You will also develop dashboarding and visualization capabilities that provide Support and Field teams with real-time insight into system health, emerging issues, and operational trends.

The role includes designing notification and alerting capabilities based on telemetry, heuristics, AI agents, and lakehouse intelligence.

Infrastructure automation is another core area. You will use Helm and Terraform to develop infrastructure-as-code that simplifies deployment and operation of Dremio software.

You will build and maintain application frameworks used by other engineering teams, including solutions for cross-cutting platform concerns such as dependency injection and role-based access control.

The position also involves working with SRE and DevOps teams to establish standardized engineering workflows, gathering feedback from the developer community, and helping deliver roadmap and integration milestones involving SAP HANA/BDC.

Candidates need 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2+ years using Java and 2+ years of hands-on infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform, Helm, or comparable technologies.

Strong experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is required, together with practical experience using OpenTelemetry or comparable observability technologies.

Candidates should also have hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker and a solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP.

A bachelor’s, master’s, or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field is requested.

Additional valuable experience includes SaaS microservices, distributed systems, asynchronous or multithreaded programming, MongoDB, RocksDB, Redis, Jenkins, ArgoCD, C++, Go, Python, Node.js, Rust, query processing, concurrency control, data replication, storage systems, Java GC/heap tuning, Apache Arrow, SQL operators, and data-path optimization.
