Senior Full-Stack PHP Developer
Cars Commerce is hiring a Senior Full-Stack PHP Developer to support its D2C Media team and help modernize digital tools used by automotive dealerships across Canada. This full-time remote position is available to candidates based in Canada.
You will work on high-throughput, API-first services and customer-facing web applications that support dealership websites, customer relationship management, inventory operations, digital advertising, and AI-enabled automotive technology.
Job Overview
As a Senior Full-Stack PHP Developer, you will design, develop, and maintain web applications using a LAMP technology stack. You will translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, build integrations and APIs, improve internal tooling, and help strengthen the reliability and usability of customer-facing platforms.
This role is suited to an experienced PHP engineer who is comfortable working across backend and frontend technologies, understands secure development practices, and can use AI-assisted coding tools responsibly within a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze the needs of internal stakeholders and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software using a LAMP stack.
- Build and support APIs, third-party integrations, internal tools, and customer-facing applications.
- Work with PHP, SQL, relational databases, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, jQuery, AJAX, and JSON.
- Develop and consume APIs that connect services across the platform.
- Follow established coding standards, security requirements, and software development best practices.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, debugging, documentation, and test coverage.
- Review and validate AI-generated code before introducing it into production systems.
- Contribute to the modernization of digital dealership tools and platform capabilities.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- At least 60 months of professional experience as a full-stack PHP web developer.
- Strong practical knowledge of PHP, SQL, and relational database design.
- Professional experience developing software on Linux platforms.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, jQuery, AJAX, and JSON.
- Experience developing and consuming APIs.
- Knowledge of Git and Composer.
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or GitHub Copilot.
- Ability to assess, secure, and validate AI-generated code before use.
- Understanding of software architecture, coding standards, and secure development practices.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered instead of formal education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Based in or near the Montreal area.
- Experience working in the automotive industry.
- Experience with agentic software development methods.
- Knowledge of observability tools, production monitoring, and incident management.
