Remote Software Engineer – Platform & Backend APIs
Speechify is hiring a Software Engineer – Platform to help build and scale the backend infrastructure powering its text-to-speech products used by millions of people worldwide. This is a fully remote position offering the opportunity to work on highly available backend services, cloud infrastructure, and APIs that support a fast-growing AI-powered platform.
You will collaborate with engineering and product teams to design scalable backend systems, improve platform reliability, and develop services that support payments, subscriptions, authentication, analytics, enterprise integrations, and text-to-speech technologies.
Job Overview
As a Platform Software Engineer, you will contribute to the architecture, development, and maintenance of backend services that power Speechify’s products across web, mobile, browser extensions, and enterprise solutions. The role focuses on designing reliable APIs, improving system scalability, supporting cloud infrastructure, and building services that deliver excellent user experiences.
This position is well suited to backend engineers who enjoy solving distributed systems challenges, working with cloud technologies, and contributing to products used by millions of customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend APIs supporting core platform services.
- Build and improve public and internal APIs for text-to-speech, authentication, payments, subscriptions, analytics, and usage tracking.
- Maintain and optimize backend services for performance, reliability, and long-term scalability.
- Support enterprise integrations and business-to-business platform capabilities.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to align backend architecture with business objectives.
- Participate in technical planning, system design, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
- Improve backend infrastructure, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of cloud-native platform services.
- Help maintain secure, reliable, and highly available production systems.
Required Qualifications
- Professional backend development experience using TypeScript and Node.js.
- Experience designing and maintaining RESTful or similar backend APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and distributed application architecture.
- Understanding of scalable backend system design and performance optimization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills within distributed engineering teams.
- Ability to prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced product environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Docker containerization.
- Experience deploying highly available applications on Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other cloud platforms.
- Experience supporting enterprise integrations and scalable backend services.
- Interest in artificial intelligence, audio technologies, or machine learning platforms.
