Lead SEC Analyst – Financial Reporting (US Remote)

Job Overview

The Lead SEC Analyst will support end-to-end ownership of GitLab’s SEC and external financial reporting processes, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and S-1, earnings materials, XBRL review, disclosure controls, technical accounting research, SOX requirements, and reporting-process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the preparation, review, and filing of SEC filings including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and S-1.
• Support preparation and review of quarterly investor materials.
• Build and manage quarterly and annual reporting calendars.
• Coordinate reporting inputs across Accounting, Legal, FP&A, Investor Relations, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accountability for reporting deadlines and identify timeline risks early.
• Lead the earnings-release process, including quarterly management reporting packages.
• Review financial information contained in earnings releases and related scripts.
• Own the disclosure checklist and XBRL review process.
• Improve the quality, clarity, and consistency of financial disclosures.
• Identify inefficiencies, redundant steps, and manual processes within SEC reporting.
• Drive automation and standardization across reporting workflows.
• Prepare or review journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned reporting areas.
• Prepare or review the equity rollforward and earnings-per-share calculations.
• Prepare or review provided-by-client schedules for areas such as stock-based compensation and stock repurchases.
• Ensure compliance with SEC requirements and U.S. GAAP.
• Research complex technical accounting issues.
• Lead implementation of new accounting pronouncements affecting disclosures.
• Maintain SOX requirements for relevant reporting areas.
• Support internal and external financial reporting packages.
• Lead or contribute to special projects involving process improvements, new disclosure requirements, and merger-and-acquisition reporting.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Experience owning SEC reporting deliverables, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
• Relevant experience within a public company or public accounting environment serving public-company clients.
• Demonstrated experience improving financial disclosures and reporting processes rather than only maintaining existing workflows.
• Strong project-management skills.
• Ability to own a reporting calendar and drive accountability across multiple teams.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines independently.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to research and interpret complex accounting guidance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Legal, FP&A, Investor Relations, and business partners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant licensure or active pursuit of CPA licensure.
• Proficiency with Workiva Wdesk.
• Proficiency with NetSuite.

Cross-Functional Reporting

The role works closely with GitLab’s Accounting, Legal, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Investor Relations teams to coordinate public-company financial reporting and strengthen the controls and processes supporting disclosures.

A major part of the position is maintaining reporting calendars, collecting and reviewing cross-functional inputs, communicating risks early, and ensuring reporting requirements are completed accurately and on schedule.

Process Improvement & Automation

GitLab expects this role to improve reporting systems rather than only operate existing processes. Responsibilities include identifying manual work, redundancies, and inefficiencies and driving greater automation and standardization.

Compensation

The U.S. base salary range for this role is $139,000–$235,000 USD per year.
