What is an AOG Desk Controller?
An AOG Desk Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of aircraft. When an aircraft encounters a technical issue that prevents it from flying (AOG), it’s the AOG Desk Controller’s responsibility to coordinate the procurement of necessary parts and materials to get the aircraft back in the air as quickly as possible.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Material Acquisition: Sourcing and expediting the delivery of aircraft parts and materials.
- Coordination: Liaising with suppliers, freight forwarders, airlines, MROs, and couriers to ensure efficient material movement.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of AOG material requirements and progress updates.
- Reporting: Providing regular reports on AOG activities to management.
- Part Tracking: Monitoring loaned, borrowed, and robbed parts to ensure timely returns and deliveries.
- Material Management: Coordinating the return of unused materials and equipment from outstations.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Degree in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering/Supply chain or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of work experience in AOG Desk in aviation materials and supply chain.
- Knowledge of aircraft parts (rotable, consumable, and expendable).
- Proficiency in airline application-based ERP systems and spreadsheet software.
- Understanding of AOG freight forwarding and custom clearance processes.
- Ability to read and understand contracts and agreements.
- Excellent communication skills.
