Role Summary

Visa is seeking a Senior Manager, Systems Administrator to join its Infrastructure Reliability Engineering function. This role carries responsibility for leading a high-performing systems engineering team focused on Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and modern microservices architecture. The position combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical engagement to ensure platform stability, scalability, and security across critical infrastructure.

The role operates in a highly available, secure, and complex production environment and plays a central part in maintaining uninterrupted services across Visa’s business lines.

Core Responsibilities and Impact Areas

Infrastructure Reliability and Operations

The role oversees lifecycle management and production support for container platforms, orchestration systems, and cloud infrastructure. This includes proactive maintenance, incident response, and continuous service improvement across AWS and GCP environments.

Observability and Proactive Monitoring

The Senior Manager designs and implements a comprehensive observability strategy. Through monitoring, logging, and analytics, the role enables early detection of anomalies and drives data-informed decisions for infrastructure optimization.

Automation and Root Cause Analysis

Automation initiatives form a critical pillar of this position. The role leads efforts in scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and remediation workflows, while also conducting deep root-cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.

Leadership and Team Development

This position provides strong people leadership by attracting, mentoring, and developing top-tier engineering talent. The manager balances strategic direction with day-to-day prioritization, resource allocation, and coaching to ensure business objectives are delivered effectively.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

The role partners closely with Platform, Engineering, and Delivery teams to ensure seamless infrastructure support. It also collaborates with geographically distributed teams to address technical challenges and improve operational processes.

Security and Compliance

The Senior Manager leads vulnerability assessment, patch management, and security remediation activities. In addition, the role ensures strict adherence to ITIL practices, including Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management.

On Call and Operational Readiness

The position includes scheduled on-call responsibilities to support infrastructure and production systems, ensuring high availability and rapid response during critical events.

Perfect Candidate Profile

Educational Background

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field. Advanced degrees are considered a strong advantage.

Required Experience

Applicants must demonstrate extensive experience in system administration, infrastructure engineering, and production support within enterprise environments. A strong background in container platforms, cloud services, and DevOps practices is essential.

Technical Expertise

The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience across the Kubernetes ecosystem, cloud platforms, automation tooling, and microservices traffic management. Strong networking knowledge and familiarity with observability and logging platforms are also critical for success in this role.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, aligned with advanced academic qualifications
  • At least five years of hands-on system administration experience
  • Five or more years working with container and cloud technologies, particularly AWS and GCP
  • Four or more years of Kubernetes experience, including internal architecture
  • Proven experience with scripting and automation using tools such as Shell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, and YAML
  • Strong understanding of ITIL-based production support processes

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Nine or more years of relevant professional experience
  • Extensive knowledge of observability tools, data analytics, and incident management
  • Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio
  • Strong exposure to CI CD or GitOps architectures, including ArgoCD, Jenkins, or similar platforms
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes tooling such as Helm, kubeadm, CSI, and CNI
  • Working knowledge of monitoring and logging platforms, including Prometheus, Grafana, Fluent Bit, Netcool, and Humio
  • Exposure to AI platforms or a strong interest in AI-driven automation for container operations

Work Model and Location

This is a hybrid role based in Warsaw, Poland. The hiring manager will confirm expectations regarding in-office presence during the selection process.
