The Kennedy Center seeks a Legislative & Board Relations Specialist to join its dynamic Board Relations and Protocol Office in Washington, D.C. This full-time position plays a pivotal role in supporting the Vice President of Board Relations and Protocol in representing Kennedy Center President Richard Grenell on all matters related to the Board of Trustees, legislative affairs, and special projects.

What You’ll Do

The Legislative & Board Relations Specialist will serve as a central coordinator and trusted liaison within a close-knit, four-member team. The role blends administrative precision with high-level diplomacy, ensuring seamless communication and engagement across government, board, and internal departments.

Core Focus Areas

  1. Board and Trustee Engagement
    • Prepare and proofread board communications, invitations, and event materials.
    • Coordinate logistics for board meetings, dinners, and receptions.
    • Serve as the department’s representative during events to ensure an exceptional Trustee experience.
  2. Legislative and Government Affairs
    • Track relevant local and federal legislation impacting the Kennedy Center.
    • Provide support for preparing meetings with government partners and officials.
    • Conduct research and maintain reports for legislative initiatives.
  3. Operational and Executive Support
    • Manage incoming correspondence, scheduling, and official communications for the VP.
    • Maintain meticulous records and document systems.
    • Handle travel, procurement, and expense reporting for department operations.
  4. Protocol and Event Coordination
    • Provide support for hosting high-level guests, dignitaries, and officials.
    • Liaise with Operations, Security, and Guest Services to deliver flawless VIP experiences.
    • Provide on-site support during evenings and weekends as needed.
  5. Information and Project Management
    • Maintain departmental trackers and communications lists.
    • Facilitate collaboration across teams for special projects led by the Board Relations and Protocol Office.
    • Safeguard sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Candidate Snapshot

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a legislative office (state or federal level)
  • 3+ years of experience as an executive or administrative assistant
  • Excellent written communication and event coordination skills
  • Ability to work onsite in Washington, D.C. (relocation not provided)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting VIPs or government officials
  • Familiarity with the federal legislative process
  • Background in event logistics or project coordination
