Position Overview

The Production Manager will lead operations across multiple sites as a key member of the Cylinders Operations Leadership Team. The role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of customer and business objectives. The manager will foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement while optimizing plant performance and workforce productivity.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead operations across multiple sites, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Ensure all site activities comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act, COMAH Regulations, COSHH, and ISO standards.
  • Drive a proactive safety agenda, working with Branch Safety Committees to achieve zero accidents.
  • Implement safety and loss control programs, maintain high standards of housekeeping, and ensure operational discipline.
  • Oversee cylinder and product quality conformity, performing rigorous quality control checks according to ISO 9001 and gas standards.
  • Develop strong employee engagement strategies to foster a motivated, inclusive workforce.
  • Plan and direct maintenance activities to ensure facilities meet production and quality objectives within budget.
  • Lead operational change initiatives, sharing best practices across sites.
  • Manage costs effectively through planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring.
  • Define and implement continuous improvement programs to drive productivity savings.
  • Ensure customer service levels meet or exceed agreed standards in collaboration with Sales, Marketing, and Healthcare teams.
  • Maintain robust asset management and documentation procedures to reflect accurate site stock positions.

Perfect Candidate Profile

Education and Certifications

  • Degree in engineering or a related science discipline.
  • NEBOSH certificate or equivalent.

Experience and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of the UK compressed and liquefied gases market.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, gas production technologies, and pressure systems.
  • Proven ability to ensure compliance with MHRA, PSSR, COMAH, HAZOP, and ISO standards.
  • Transformational leadership experience, with talent development and stakeholder engagement expertise.
  • Ability to operate in unionized environments and drive safety leadership in hazardous gas handling.
  • Resilient under pressure, with excellent communication skills and financial acumen.
  • Track record of implementing lean practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
