Role Summary
The Principal BizOps Engineer serves as a key contributor to Mastercard’s Business Operations function, which leads the DevOps transformation across development, quality, release, and product teams. Therefore, this role combines production readiness, automation leadership, and operational excellence. The position requires close collaboration with developers and product stakeholders to ensure that platforms are reliable, scalable, and efficient.
Core Responsibility Areas
Service Reliability and Lifecycle Management
The engineer engages throughout the service lifecycle, from design and deployment to operational refinement. In addition, the role includes monitoring system availability, latency, performance, and overall platform health.
Platform Readiness and Operational Excellence
The position ensures production readiness by embedding monitoring, performance optimization, capacity planning, and deployment automation into delivery pipelines. Furthermore, the engineer supports services before launch through design reviews and capacity assessments.
DevOps and Automation Leadership
Business Operations drives DevOps adoption at Mastercard. As a result, the engineer strengthens CI/CD pipelines, improves automation coverage, and reduces manual processes. The role also promotes best practices across global teams.
Incident Response and Risk Management
The engineer supports sustainable incident response, conducts root cause analysis, and contributes to blameless post-mortems. Moreover, the role connects technical insights across systems during production events to improve recovery time and reduce risk.
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
The position involves working with global teams across time zones. Additionally, the engineer mentors junior team members and communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Technical Environment
The role supports data delivery and analytics platforms, including MyMPA and QMR. Technologies include:
Unix, Shell Scripting, SQL, Oracle, Hadoop, Python, Apache Nifi, Splunk, Dynatrace, Jenkins, Git, XLR, Kafka, Grafana, AWS Cloud, Databricks, Power BI, data warehousing systems, and distributed platform clusters.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical ability and a passion for automation. Furthermore, the individual takes ownership of system reliability and continuously improves monitoring and operational capabilities. A proactive approach to problem-solving and team collaboration is essential.
Education Criteria
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline is required. Equivalent practical experience in coding, mathematics, or physics-based fields is also considered.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with algorithms, data structures, scripting, and software design
- Expertise in debugging, performance tuning, and task automation
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems
- Strong background in CI and CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory, and Chef
- Proven ability to design efficient deployment pipelines with minimal manual effort
- Familiarity with ITSM processes and operational gap analysis
- Ability to work in high-pressure situations with urgency and clear decision-making
- Experience across multiple technologies listed in the technical environment
