Washington, D.C. – The Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, is seeking a skilled Librarian (Systems) to manage its vast digital library resources. This exciting opportunity within the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives (SLA) offers the chance to shape how the institution’s collections reach a global audience. This is a Merit Promotion opportunity open to current and former federal employees, as well as those eligible for special appointing authorities.
The Librarian (Systems) will be the driving force behind the SLA’s Library Services Platform (LSP), overseeing its development, implementation, and enhancement. This role involves collaborating with local and international libraries, vendors, and Smithsonian staff to acquire content and ensure seamless access to the institution’s rich resources. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, experience with library systems, and a passion for promoting knowledge and scholarship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project development for the LSP and related projects.
- Manage LSP implementation, interoperability, and improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative on LSP-related contracts.
- Facilitate content acquisition from various sources worldwide.
- Collaborate with library, scientific, and scholarly staff.
Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the basic qualifications for librarians, including professional education in library science or equivalent experience and education. For the GS-12 level, candidates must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level, which includes working as a librarian, data manager, or professional services consultant for information library systems (ILS) or a library organization with team, group, and/or program leadership or management responsibilities within a special, academic, or research library.
Salary:
This position is at the GS-12 level, with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. $75,706 – $98,422 per year.
