Position Overview

Mastercard’s LLM as a Service team is seeking a visionary Lead AI/DevOps Engineer. This critical role is designed for a technical leader passionate about leveraging artificial intelligence to redefine customer experiences. You will architect and manage the robust infrastructure that powers our large language model (LLM) services, driving innovation from concept to production. Core Responsibilities & Key Focus Areas

1. AI Infrastructure Leadership & DevOps Excellence

  • Spearhead DevOps initiatives within on-premise and cloud environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable AI infrastructure using Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, and Helm for orchestrating LLMs and related services.

2. Advanced AI Solution Development

  • Drive the creation of proof-of-concept solutions for cutting-edge AI use cases, including Model Context Protocols (MCPs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and autonomous agentic workflows.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to optimize cloud resources for scalable, efficient, and cost-effective AI workloads.

3. Strategic Collaboration & Customer Partnership

  • Work directly with internal customer teams to gather requirements, deliver tailored AI solutions, and provide expert technical support throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with security and governance teams to ensure all AI solutions adhere to stringent enterprise policies, regulatory standards, and privacy best practices.

4. Operational Monitoring & Technical Communication

  • Utilize and manage advanced monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, and Prometheus to ensure system reliability.
  • Articulate complex technical concepts and strategic visions clearly and persuasively to diverse stakeholder groups, from engineers to executives.

The Ideal Candidate Profile

Professional Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in DevOps tools and platforms: Kubernetes (OpenShift preferred), Docker, Helm, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience with Python; knowledge of GoLang is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and maintaining infrastructure for AI/ML workloads, including huge language models.
  • A track record of developing innovative technical solutions with a customer-centric mindset.

Compensation & Benefits

Mastercard offers a competitive total compensation package based on qualifications, experience, and location.

Sample Annual Base Salary Ranges:

  • New York City, NY / San Francisco, CA: $168,000 – $277,000
  • Arlington, VA / Boston, MA: $161,000 – $266,000
  • O’Fallon, MO / Remote (CA, NY): $140,000 – $231,000
