Oak Ridge, TN – The Nuclear and Radiological Protection Division (NRPD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a skilled Radiological Instrumentation Technician to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of ORNL’s research facilities, which include nonreactor nuclear facilities, accelerators, and the High Flux Isotope Reactor. The salary for this position can reach up to $138,148 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities:
- Performing NIST-traceable calibrations of radiological protection instruments.
- Providing NIST-traceable irradiations of thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs).
- Developing and revising procedures for instrument calibration and use.
- Troubleshooting issues with portable and stationary radiological instruments.
- Supporting vendors with instrument maintenance and repair.
Qualifications:
- AS degree in a science-related or technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience in calibrating and testing radiological protection instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of ANSI N323 requirements.
- Strong communication, computer, and teamwork skills.
Preferred qualifications include: Excellent written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
