Job Description: Senior DevSecOps Engineer – Remote (Federal Unit)
Are you a senior security engineer passionate about building secure, compliant cloud infrastructures for missions that matter? Element 84, a leading woman-owned small business specializing in cloud-based geospatial data and Earth science systems, is seeking an experienced Senior DevSecOps Engineer to join our Federal Unit. This is a high-impact, remote role where you will serve as a key security authority, ensuring our clients’ cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) meet stringent federal security standards.

Your Mission:
To architect, implement, and oversee the security posture of our federal clients’ multi-cloud environments. You will be the go-to expert for integrating DevSecOps principles, ensuring compliance, and providing strategic guidance to protect systems that handle critical Earth science and geospatial data.
Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain secure, compliant cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

Lead the development and maintenance of key security artifacts, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms) in accordance with NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171.

Embed security into the CI/CD pipeline, automating security testing and compliance checks.

Conduct architectural security analyses, risk assessments, and participate in change control processes.

Provide expert guidance on cloud security best practices (encryption, IAM, data protection), evaluate security tools, and mentor team members.

Lead security assessments and ongoing monitoring to maintain a strong security posture for cloud tenants and infrastructure.
What You Bring (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in information security, with substantial hands-on experience in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

AWS Associate-level certification is required (or must be obtained within 6 months of start date).

Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, network architecture, vulnerability assessment, and federal security controls (NIST 800-53, 800-171).

Proven ability to work independently and advise teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critical for this remote role.

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident authorized to work without sponsorship and located in an eligible state (see list below).
