We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join our mission-driven Design team—a creative technologist who will build cutting-edge, animated web experiences that captivate developers and communicate the power of our tools.

The Role: Senior Design Engineer
This is not a traditional design role. As a Senior Design Engineer at Clerk, you will be the architect of our interactive marketing front. You will use advanced CSS, WebGL, Shaders, and modern animation frameworks (like motion.dev) to build event-driven, immersive web experiences. Your work will translate complex developer tools into approachable and exciting visual stories that drive engagement and conversion. You will establish Clerk’s distinctive animation voice and push the boundaries of web performance and creativity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop cutting-edge, interactive marketing pages and components using React, TypeScript, WebGL, and advanced animation to create memorable visual narratives.

  • Engineer smooth, 60fps experiences with fast loading times across all devices, maintaining excellent Core Web Vitals and accessibility standards.

  • Define and implement a distinctive motion design system that makes Clerk’s brand instantly recognizable and compelling.

  • Work directly with the Growth Design team to prototype and rapidly iterate on marketing concepts, using motion to tell product stories and drive conversion.

  • Craft scroll-triggered animations, hero sequences, and intuitive micro-interactions that guide visitors through our website and product value.

Who You Are (Required Skills):

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building production-grade, animated marketing websites that demonstrably drive engagement and conversions.

  • Deep knowledge of scroll-triggered animations, WebGL effects, and creative development techniques for capturing user attention.

  • Proficient in React, TypeScript, and modern frameworks (Next.js) with extensive experience using animation libraries like Framer Motion or React Spring.

  • Proven ability to balance rich visual experiences with fast load times and cross-device compatibility.

  • An eye for using motion to communicate brand values, explain complex products, and guide users through marketing journeys.

  • Experience working effectively with brand designers, marketers, and growth teams to bring campaign concepts to life.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience at a developer tools company or building products for developers.

  • Familiarity with Web Components, SSR/Server Components, or cross-framework component delivery.

  • Knowledge of frontend security, privacy concerns, and browser session contexts.
