Fresenius Medical Care, the global leader in kidney care, is seeking a Senior Data Privacy Engineer (Technical Privacy) to ensure our life-sustaining products and digital services are built and operated in full compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, EU AI Act, and global privacy regulations.
This is a high-impact, remote role for an individual with deep, hands-on expertise in privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default. You will be the technical authority, translating complex regulations into actionable engineering frameworks, design patterns, and tools for product teams. If you thrive at the intersection of technology, compliance, and healthcare innovation, join us in our mission to create a future worth living for patients worldwide.
About Fresenius Medical Care:
With over 125,000 employees globally, we are dedicated to improving the lives of patients with chronic kidney disease. Guided by our values of Care, Connect, and Commit, we deliver high-quality, innovative products and services across the entire healthcare journey. We foster a culture where innovative thinking is encouraged to find the best solutions for our patients.
Your Mission:
To own the operationalization of privacy-by-design across the entire product development lifecycle. You will architect technical privacy solutions, mentor engineering teams, and serve as the central technical interface between Legal, Security, and Product to build inherently compliant and trustworthy systems.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Develop and implement technical frameworks, design patterns, and guidelines to embed GDPR, HIPAA, and EU AI Act requirements into system architectures and cloud environments from the ground up.
-
Create and maintain solutions for encryption, pseudonymization, data minimization, and secure data transfer to enable product teams.
-
Lead privacy impact assessments (PIAs/DPIAs) from a technical design perspective, identifying risks and defining mitigating controls.
-
Act as the primary technical privacy authority, collaborating with Engineering, Product, Legal, and Security teams to translate regulatory mandates into concrete technical requirements and acceptance criteria.
-
Mentor software engineers and architects on privacy-preserving coding standards, architectural best practices, and the use of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs).
-
Stay at the forefront of evolving global privacy regulations to proactively guide product development and ensure future compliance.
What You Bring (Required Profile):
-
Demonstrated experience as a Privacy Engineer, Technical Privacy Lead, Privacy-by-Design Architect, or similar role, with hands-on implementation in real-world systems and cloud environments.
-
Strong expertise in GDPR technical requirements and experience with compliance frameworks like ISO 27001 or SOC2. Solid understanding of systems architecture and privacy-enhancing technologies.
-
Ability to translate abstract legal and regulatory concepts into practical, scalable technical designs and engineering patterns.
-
Excellent skills in explaining complex technical privacy issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a global organization.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the initiative to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and own responsibilities end-to-end.
-
Credentials such as CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM, CDPSE, or CISSP are highly advantageous.
Why Join Fresenius Medical Care?

Your work directly contributes to building safe, compliant technology that improves patient lives globally.

Serve as the go-to technical expert in a critical, growing field within a global healthcare leader.
