Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Engineering and Technical Leadership

The Engineer or Scientist will drive design and development efforts for Combat Systems. The work involves system planning, integration, implementation, and testing. The role includes evaluating system baselines, preparing systems for certification, and guiding software solutions from concept to fielding.

Software and Systems Development

The position requires software engineering activities that support various Combat System services. The incumbent will document all stages of work. This includes preparing technical reports, specifications, presentations, and testing documents. The role demands strong problem-solving and analytical thinking to evaluate Command and Control Systems software.

Technical Analysis and Application Planning

The professional will assess information and recommend new system applications or system modifications. This analysis informs planning for development cycles and supports decisions that affect system performance and reliability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

The role involves close work with engineering teams to evaluate hardware and software interfaces. The incumbent will also engage with customers to discuss software design, implementation, and system maintenance.

Desired Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a professional Engineer or Scientist with a background in platform or DevSecOps software development. Experience in Kubernetes cluster administration is essential. The role suits someone who has led teams through requirements development, architecture planning, and engineering assessments. Experience mentoring junior staff and managing project plans within resource limits is valuable.

Required Experience

Education Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the positive education requirements for the following series:

  • 0801 Engineering
  • 1515 Operations Research
  • 1520 Mathematics
  • 1550 Computer Science

Acceptable degrees and combinations include ABET-accredited engineering degrees, computer science degrees, mathematics majors, or related scientific fields, provided they meet the required credit hours and professional experience.

Additional Notes

This role falls under the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND 4 band aligns with GS 12 and GS 13. Several positions may be filled. The Department of Defense hiring freeze may delay offers until exemptions are approved. Veteran’s preference does not apply under this hiring authority.
