LawnStarter, the nation’s leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and home services, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior WordPress Engineer to join our growing team remotely. We are looking for an individual with a deep understanding of WordPress development, a strong grasp of web technologies, and a commitment to building high-quality, performant solutions. As a key member of our engineering team, you will design, develop, and maintain WordPress websites and applications, optimizing them for speed, SEO, and user experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch, ensuring responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.
- Customize and extend existing WordPress themes and plugins.
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and other developers to translate designs and requirements into functional WordPress solutions.
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Perform WordPress, plugin, theme, and PHP upgrades.
- Optimize WordPress sites for speed and performance using techniques like caching, lazy loading, and image optimization.
- Implement SEO best practices, including optimizing site structure, meta tags, and schema markup.
- Utilize performance analysis tools (e.g., Google PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix) to identify and implement improvements.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues efficiently.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest WordPress trends, web performance optimization techniques, and SEO strategies.
- Participate in project planning, estimation, and scoping.
- Collaborate with SEO and editorial teams to identify opportunities for site improvements.
- Proactively identify and propose enhancements to our WordPress projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience as a WordPress Developer or Engineer, with a strong portfolio of WordPress projects.
- Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL.
- Extensive experience with WordPress theme and plugin development, including custom development.
- Strong understanding of web performance optimization and SEO best practices.
- Experience optimizing WordPress sites for speed and performance, aiming for high scores on performance testing tools.
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks (e.g., React.js, Vue.js, AngularJS) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-motivated and proactive with a passion for continuous learning.
- Experience with reverse proxy architectures and WordPress sites on reverse proxies.
- Emphasis on custom WordPress development (themes and functionality) over plugin-heavy solutions.
- Portfolio demonstrating WordPress sites built or significantly modified, with explanations of your contributions.
- Familiarity with technical SEO implementation at the code level.
