We’re on a mission to expand economic opportunities for this vital workforce by providing businesses with innovative solutions for onboarding, attendance, payroll, and worker well-being, while simultaneously empowering workers with access to embedded financial services and social benefits. This includes building digital identities with verifiable work and earnings records, opening doors to essential services like loans and insurance.
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Founding Lead Engineer to spearhead the development of our platform from the ground up. This is a full-scope development role where you will own the entire process, from backend architecture and API design to frontend implementation across web, mobile, and USSD platforms. You will collaborate closely with the CTO, UI/UX designer, and technical advisors to build a scalable, secure, and robust system. Initially, you will work independently to accelerate MVP development, with the opportunity to build and manage a development team in the near future.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop a scalable REST API (Laravel, FastAPI, Node.js, or similar).
- Implement core platform modules (user management, onboarding, attendance, payroll, communication).
- Ensure API compatibility across web, mobile, and USSD clients.
- Build a responsive web application (React, Vue.js, or similar).
- Collaborate with the UI/UX designer on user-friendly interfaces.
- Deploy applications on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Establish CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices for code quality and security.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of professional experience in full-stack application development.
- Expertise in at least one backend framework (Laravel, FastAPI, Node.js, or similar).
- Proficiency in web and mobile frontend technologies (ReactJS, Vue.JS, React Native, Flutter, or similar).
- Familiarity with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) and API design.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively remotely.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building HR/Payroll or Payment platforms.
- USSD application development experience.
- DevOps and cloud infrastructure experience.
- Knowledge of biometric or IoT integrations.
- Mobile app development experience (iOS and Android).
- Experience building platforms for diverse and underserved demographics.
