San Juan, Puerto Rico – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual for an Interdisciplinary Regulatory Specialist position (GS-XXXX-11/12) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This exciting opportunity within the South Atlantic Division (SAD) – Caribbean District offers a chance to play a vital role in protecting and preserving the environment.

About the Role:

This Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) position focuses on managing and processing various permit applications and regulatory requests, including General Permits, Letters of Permission, Standard Permits, and Jurisdictional Determinations. The selected candidate will conduct thorough evaluations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations such as NEPA, the Clean Water Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and the Endangered Species Act. This involves identifying regulated activities, assessing information needs, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently evaluate, process, and manage permit applications and regulatory requests.
  • Conduct comprehensive environmental assessments, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Identify and quantify regulated activities, determining appropriate permit instruments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including applicants, government agencies, and the public.
  • Serve as a technical representative or expert witness in legal proceedings.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Geography, Biological Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Physical Science, or a related field. A strong understanding of environmental principles, regulations, and laws is essential. Experience in project management, wetland delineation, and excellent communication skills are highly desired. Salary:

The salary range for this position is competitive and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications (GS-11/12).
