What Does a City Carrier Assistant Do?
As a CCA, you’ll be the friendly face of the USPS in your assigned area. Responsibilities include:
- Sorting and sequencing mail for delivery routes.
- Delivering and collecting mail on foot or by vehicle in various weather conditions.
- Handling different mail types, including packages, C.O.D., and registered mail.
- Interacting professionally with customers and providing postal information.
- Using electronic scanning equipment.
This physically demanding role requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting mail containers up to the maximum allowable weight.
Position Details & Benefits:
- Pay: $19.33 per hour (paid bi-weekly)
- Type: Non-career position with 360-day terms. Reappointment is possible based on business needs and can lead to a career position.
- Hours: Vary based on schedule; requires availability to work any day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
- Benefits:
- Earn paid leave (1 hour for every 20 hours worked).
- Holiday pay for 6 designated holidays.

Key Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident alien, or citizen of specific U.S. territories.
- Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record and at least two years of unsupervised driving experience.
- Ability to pass the Virtual Entry Assessment – MC (474) exam (applicants currently without scores will be invited to test until capacity is reached).
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, and meet medical suitability requirements.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
- Ability to communicate and understand English.
