Discogs, the world’s largest online music database and marketplace, seeks a highly motivated and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our team remotely. This contract-to-hire position offers the opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Discogs’ marketing initiatives. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our marketing strategies, delivering actionable insights to drive growth and engagement within the music community.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and optimize robust and scalable data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and quality. You will collaborate closely with marketing, product, and engineering teams to translate business needs into technical solutions. This role requires a data-driven problem-solver with a passion for music and a desire to make a tangible impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for data ingestion, processing, and storage.
  • Implement data validation and quality checks.
  • Optimize and automate data workflows.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, and analytics teams.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data processes and system architecture.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.
  • Monitor and enhance data infrastructure performance, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in data integration and ETL processes.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with marketing automation platforms and data warehouses in a marketing context is preferred.
  • Knowledge of API integration and data exchange formats (JSON, XML, CSV) is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, preferably in e-commerce or a marketplace environment.
  • Experience with data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, Apache Airflow) is preferred.
  • Strong experience with MySQL and database management.
  • Experience in the music industry or a strong personal interest in vinyl records is preferred.
  • Experience with BI and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker) is preferred.

Compensation: $65-$75 per hour (contract rate)

Location: Remote (Open to candidates in OR, WA, CA, CO, TX, IL)
