Help Improve Karachi’s Public Transport! Social Development Specialist Needed (Karachi Mobility Project)

Looking for a fulfilling career that makes a real difference in people’s lives? The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) is seeking a highly motivated Social Development Specialist to join their team for the Karachi Mobility Project’s BRT Yellow Line (World Bank Funded Project).

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a large-scale initiative that aims to improve public transportation in Karachi, Pakistan. As the Social Development Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the project benefits the community and minimizes any potential disruptions.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct social impact assessments to identify potential project effects on communities.
  • Develop and implement a social development plan to address community concerns and ensure equitable project benefits.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including community leaders, NGOs, and residents, to address their needs and concerns.
  • Monitor and evaluate the social impacts of the project and propose mitigation measures as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies to keep stakeholders informed about the project’s progress.

Who you are:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Business Administration, or a relevant field from a HEC recognized university.
  • Possess at least 2 years of experience for a Master’s degree or 5 years of experience for a Bachelor’s degree (post-qualification).
  • Experience working on projects funded by Donor Agencies is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills are essential.
  • Experience in conducting social impact assessments and developing social development plans is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis is preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Urdu is required.
