The Opportunity
Join Paymentology, the first truly global issuer-processor, and take a leading role in managing the critical data infrastructure that powers next-generation payment solutions. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior MSSQL Database Administrator to take full ownership of our large-scale, high-availability SQL Server environment.
In this position, you will be the primary expert responsible for the performance, security, and resilience of the databases that handle high-frequency transactions for banks and fintechs across 60+ countries. Your work will directly ensure the stability and scalability of our advanced, multi-cloud platform, making a significant impact in the fast-paced world of financial technology.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and execute complex database upgrade and migration projects, such as moving from SQL Server 2016 to 2022, from initial planning to final validation.
- Architect, implement, and maintain robust high-availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions using Always On Availability Groups.
- Proactively monitor and tune the performance of very large databases (15TB+) to support high-throughput, transactional workloads.
- Develop and implement comprehensive data lifecycle management strategies, including data partitioning, archiving, and tiered storage solutions.
- Own and validate backup and recovery protocols to meet stringent Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
- Enhance database security and governance by implementing features like Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Dynamic Data Masking (DDM), and least-privilege access models.
- Automate routine administrative tasks and operational procedures using T-SQL and scripting to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Collaborate with engineering teams via GitHub to review database code changes and promote best practices for performance and security.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional experience in database administration with expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Demonstrated experience leading major SQL Server upgrade projects.
- Hands-on expertise in designing and managing Always On Availability Groups for HA/DR.
- A proven track record of managing and performance-tuning large database estates (15TB or more) with high transaction volumes.
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL for automation and complex problem-solving.
- In-depth knowledge of database security principles, including TDE and DDM.
- Familiarity with SRE principles and experience using enterprise-level monitoring and observability tools.
- Bonus Skills: Experience in regulated or compliant environments (e.g., FinTech, Healthcare), proficiency with AWS cloud services, and expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
