Join our team within operational services GmbH as a Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer, where you will serve as the technical expert for building, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance Postgres environments for enterprise customers.
The Role: Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle administration, performance tuning, and strategic optimization of our PostgreSQL database systems. You will ensure maximum availability, reliability, and security while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business-critical applications. This role requires deep hands-on expertise, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and participation in on-call rotations to maintain our 24/7 operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Administer, operate, and maintain PostgreSQL database environments, including installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and patching.

Design, implement, and optimize database architectures. Monitor performance, conduct tuning, and analyze complex queries to ensure high efficiency.

Implement and support HA/DR configurations (e.g., AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering) to guarantee system resilience.

Develop and execute robust backup & recovery strategies. Ensure strict adherence to security policies, compliance standards, and audit requirements.

Troubleshoot complex database issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions. Contribute to automation initiatives for continuous service improvement.

Work closely with development, infrastructure, and operations teams. Create and maintain comprehensive system and process documentation.
Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience in a production environment.

Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internal architecture, components, and processes.

Proven experience in performance tuning, backup/recovery, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Solid knowledge of SQL and query optimization.

Linux server administration skills (basics required).
-
Analytical, systematic, and structured working style with strong teamwork and communication skills.

Customer-oriented approach and willingness to participate in on-call duties.

Upper-Intermediate (B2) English proficiency.
Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have):

Experience with other RDBMS: Oracle, MariaDB.

Knowledge of High Availability solutions.

Command-line / shell scripting (Bash, Python).
-
Familiarity with support tools (PuTTY, monitoring dashboards, automation).

German language skills.
