The Role: Security Engineer
As a Security Engineer at YNAB, you will be the technical hands implementing and optimizing our security posture. Working closely with our Security Lead, you will focus on technical security implementation, security architecture support, and shared incident response. You’ll configure tooling, analyze logs, collaborate with engineers on secure design, and help ensure security is woven into everything we build. This is a highly collaborative role for someone who loves solving complex problems, values clear communication, and thrives in a four-day work week environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Configure and maintain security tooling (monitoring, vulnerability management), implement access controls, write automation scripts, and analyze security logs (DataDog, etc.).

Collaborate with Engineering through secure code reviews, threat modeling, and security testing. Conduct assessments to proactively identify risks.

Monitor security events, investigate threats, and respond to incidents. Support bug bounty programs and stay current on emerging threats.

Work cross-functionally to find security solutions that enable progress without unnecessary blockers. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teammates.
Hard Requirements (Non-Negotiable):

2+ years of hands-on experience in security engineering, software engineering, DevOps, or IT security.

Practical application security experience (e.g., code reviews, threat modeling, SAST/DAST).

Experience building/maintaining security logs (DataDog, Splunk, ELK, CloudWatch, etc.).

Must live in the United States (Central or Eastern Time Zones) and be authorized to work without sponsorship.
