About the Opportunity
The world of search is undergoing a seismic shift. Animalz is seeking a forward-thinking and deeply experienced leader to become our Director of SEO & AI Search Strategy. This is a pivotal leadership role for an expert who can navigate the complexities of traditional SEO while pioneering strategies for the new era of AI-driven search and discovery.
You will be the agency’s senior-most authority on organic search, directly shaping the success of our enterprise clients. You will not only lead strategy for a portfolio of key accounts but also serve as the central hub of knowledge, guiding our entire team to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
What You Will Own: Key Responsibilities
- Architect Advanced SEO Strategies: Design and implement sophisticated SEO and AI search strategies for a portfolio of high-value B2B SaaS clients, ensuring they dominate both traditional SERPs and emerging AI-driven answer engines (like Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Gemini).
- Client Leadership & Retention: Serve as the primary strategic SEO partner for 4-5 key accounts. Lead client communications, present performance data, identify growth opportunities, and ensure a high rate of monthly revenue retention.
- Technical SEO Expertise: Act as the final point of escalation for complex technical SEO challenges, providing expert guidance and problem-solving for your accounts and others managed by the team.
- Team Mentorship & Management: Directly manage and professionally develop at least one team member through consistent coaching and feedback. Guide a broader team of content marketers and freelancers, elevating the entire organization’s SEO capabilities.
- Innovation & Internal Process: Drive the development of new workflows, frameworks, and best practices for integrating AI into our SEO and content production processes, improving both efficiency and quality.
- Performance Analysis: Guide teams in monthly reporting and continuous performance monitoring using a full suite of tools (GA4, GSC, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog).
What You Bring to the Table: Ideal Candidate Profile
- Extensive SEO Experience: A minimum of 4 years in a senior SEO or content strategy role, with a strong preference for experience within a marketing agency or B2B SaaS environment.
- Proven Leadership: At least 3 years of experience leading complex SEO initiatives and collaborating with, or directly managing, other team members and freelance contributors.
- AI Search Acumen: Demonstrated success and a deep curiosity for adapting SEO tactics for AI search environments (e.g., Google’s AI Overviews) and leveraging generative AI for high-quality content production.
- Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in the fundamentals of technical SEO, including site audits, schema, and SERP feature optimization.
- Strategic & Commercial Mindset: The ability to connect SEO content strategies directly to a client’s overarching business goals and deliver clear, measurable results through organic channels.
- Exceptional Communication: The ability to confidently present complex strategies and performance data to C-level stakeholders and technical teams alike.
Your First 3 Months: A Roadmap to Success
- Month 1: Immersion & Integration. You will complete a comprehensive onboarding program, shadow key client meetings, and build relationships with your direct reports and stakeholders to understand the Animalz ecosystem.
- Month 2: Strategic Ownership. You will assume strategic leadership for 2-3 key client accounts, begin handling escalations, and conduct a thorough audit of current SEO processes to identify opportunities for enhancement.
- Month 3: Driving Impact. You will own the full SEO strategy for your core accounts, establish yourself as the agency’s go-to expert, and begin implementing refined processes and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the team.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive Salary: $85,000 – $110,000 USD annually, with the potential for incentive-based compensation.
